Hermann Fuechsel was born in 1833 in Brunswick, Germany. He studied in Germany with Hans Heinrich Jurgen Brandes and also with painter and engraver Karl Friedrich Lessing. He traveled to the United States in 1858 and promptly opened his studio. New York is where he met American painters Albert Bierstadt, Worthington Whittredge, and Emanuel Leutz at the Academy. Fuechsel exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy, the Boston Athenaeum, and the New York Academy of Design. He produced steel engravings of the Hudson River, White Mountain, Lake George, Catskill, and Adirondack Landscape.
