NEW YORK, NY (February 2026) — Lincoln Glenn Gallery presents A Tribute to André Emmerich, an exhibition honoring one of the gallery’s greatest inspirations and a defining figure in the modern art world. Active in New York during the second half of the twentieth century, Emmerich is widely regarded as the first mega-dealer of the modern era.
For more than forty years, Emmerich championed artists who shaped the visual language of the postwar period, including Morris Louis, Helen Frankenthaler, and David Hockney, along with hundreds of others. He reshaped the art market, influenced museum collections, and helped define how modern art is viewed today. A passionate advocate for Color Field painting, he also supported women artists at a time when few galleries took that risk, including Pat Lipsky, Sherron Francis, Helen Frankenthaler, and Anne Truitt.
The exhibition brings together over 30 works by 20 artists from Emmerich’s gallery program, including Anne Truitt, Al Held, Jules Olitski, Pat Lipsky, Friedel Dzubas, Kenneth Noland, Jack Tworkov, and Hans Hofmann. Installed in a dense, maximalist hang across paintings, sculpture, drawings, and watercolors, the presentation reflects the breadth of his vision.
The exhibition is deeply personal for the gallery, which continues to work with and represent artists Emmerich once represented, including Sherron Francis and Friedel Dzubas, both of whom have had solo exhibitions with the gallery. To our knowledge, this is the first exhibition devoted entirely to honoring Emmerich’s gallery legacy. A Tribute to André Emmerich will be accompanied by a catalogue produced and curated by Alex Grimley, PhD.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM.
